Search and Rescue Success

I want to thank Heidi Oliver (Move Fitness Training) for being my personal fitness trainer the past few years.  Heidi has helped me recover from two knee surgeries as well as broken wrists, and I couldn't have made such a great recovery without her fitness plan for me to gain back the strength, balance, flexibility and cardio I've needed for the physical endurance of searching in deep woods and mountains looking for lost people, as I volunteer on the Maine Search and Rescue Dog team (MESARD.org).  Thanks to Heidi's help, I was physically able to endure harsh conditions of 3 days searching for a 77 year old woman who went missing in the woods of Waterford, ME.  In the morning of the third day, under tremendous heat and humidity with very little wind, I was assigned a steep hillside, we ascended over 500 feet in the thick wooded remote area, until my search dog Kobuk found her alive at 9:27am 7/9/2014.

I have been a client of Heidi Oliver's for the last 11 years.  Looking back,
I initially went seeking a trainer to change a chronic tiredness that settled in
my back and took energy from my work day.  In the years since, she has helped me to gain core strength,
increase cardio workouts and maintain flexibility that I
know I would have lost at my age.  Her sessions are always varied and innovative, using the latest techniques and items on the market.  I am convinced
that she has been my greatest investment in maintaining good health and
fitness.

No Need For A Hip Replacement
I had just retired and was looking forward to an active life when hip pain sent me to my Primary Care Doctor.  I was diagnosed with arthritis and began a series of ultrasound guided cortisone injections to ease the pain.  They would work for awhile but I kept finding myself back for another, knowing that they wold be less effective after 5 injections.  I felt I was repeating the legacy of my mother and would face hip replacement surgery sooner rather than later.
Wanting to either delay the need for surgery, or at the very least be in better physical condition if I had to have it, I began working with Heidi.  She devised a program that would increase flexibility and build muscle strength.  Heidi created an exercise program that I did at the gym each week and that I  could also easily replicate at home using a yoga ball, a few weights, and some resistance bands.
I am coming up to a one year anniversary of practicing our regimen and can truly say that I feel so much better!  I no longer sleep with a pillow between my knees after taking one or two Advil.  I no longer go to the doctor for cortisone injections.  I am able to pursue my favorite seasonal activity...gardening.  The arthritis is still there, but my physical condition is improved to the point that I don't foresee  replacement surgery in the near future.  Thank you Heidi

Mother of the Bride continued

Picture
Just recently, I was the Mother of the Bride.  Heidi and I worked all summer long to strengthen my shoulders, arms and upper body posture to look good in a strapless gown.  Needless to say, it will always be a day to remember seeing my daughter married in such a beautiful ceremony but I also knew how great I felt reaching my goal of looking strong and fit for that special day.

Keep me on my feet

Picture
I am almost 93 years old* and I live alone.  I don't want to fall.  Heidi works
with me twice a week on balance, strength, and flexibility.  We walk inside in
winter (out in summer), lift weights (2 lbs), and stretch.  Its always fun and I
look forward to Heidi's visits.

*Maxine is 96 now and recently moved to Sentry Hill.  She still continues to exercise with Heidi

Mary's Success Story
I have trained with Heidi for years, working on weights, balance, stamina.  I
really have noticed my improved strength when I care for my granddaughters each
week and have to lift them up into car seats and high chairs.  Also, last spring
I was able to work all day painting and cleaning and readying our cottage for
the summer.  My real success came this spring when I participated  in a 5K road
race in San Francisco at my husbands business conference.  I've run the race
before, but this year, I won my age group.  Its my first victory ever!  All that
work has really paid off.

Bride Ready

Picture
I started working out with Heidi in April.  I wanted to get "Bride Ready" for my
upcoming wedding in September.  I wanted to work on toning my upperbody.  Heidi
was excellent as she was focused on the areas I wanted to work on, and was
always finding unique ways to workout.  A workout with Heidi was never
boring, we utilized the bosu, free weights, bands, the ball, and several
machines.  I could trust that the workout Heidi provided was fit to my needs and
offered challenges when appropriate.  Based on Heidi's tracking system I could
really see the numbers changing as I progressed.  I felt great and looked great
too!  Even though my wedding has passed, I will continue to workout with Heidi.

A Workout for every season

I love exercising outside, so when winter arrived, Heidi developed a plan just for me

Oh, My Aching Back

I have loved working with Heidi. Working with her twice a week was a continuation of my physical therapy work to strengthen my core muscles.  Heid worked with the physical therapist to help design a personal program for me.  Heidi is always encouraging and is a great motivator.

Give me something different
I went to Heidi after  many years of aerobic classes and a year of nothing-I needed to get moving and just was tired of classes so I got to work out on my time line, not a gym's!
Heidi's approach is very professional due to her academic background in exercise physiology, physical education, and coaching and her ACSM certification.  I valued her background, as it definitely added to her approach to my needs.

She pushes you but not past where you and she feels your body can go...I now have a program Heidi created for me to do independently and she still checks back to see how I am doing...  She really cares about her clients     KR

A workout for the road
While I was in York, Heidi laid out a very effective plan for the use of my stability ball during my six-month stay.  She also gave me a program for strength training and the illustrations with stick figures are very helpful when it comes to using the rubber bands...Heidi was always on time and most of all, always cheerful!  As one who already worked out seven days a week, I can only say that she was an added dimension to my workouts. I wouldn't do anything physical without Heidi
Heidi is my lifeline to good health...if I didn't see her regularly, I might not do anything physical.  She helps me maintain a base level of fitness, so when I am ready, someday I can do more.  SM

Preparing for baby
 Jen's Success Story
I started working with Heidi because I knew I wanted to become pregnant and I knew I needed to get my body ready for the changes that were to come.  I have had back issues since I was a teen and I had heard horror stories about back problems and pregnancy so I wanted to do exercises that would help strengthen my core muscles.  I told Heidi about my concerns and she came up with exercises that suit my needs.  I worked one on one with Heidi about 3 days per week for months.  She kept things fun, upbeat and challenging.  I never got bored or discouraged.  Heidi is a great motivator who won't let you quit on yourself.  I actually looked forward to working out!  In the end I had a firmer, more toned body with great abdominal and back strength which is just what I was looking for.  I have since had two kids and both pregnancies were a breeze.  Jen C
